YES: Persia is Iran and people in Persia are called Persians but Persians call them self Iranians.

But Persia if you mean the Persian empire then the answer is NO cause the Persian empire is much larger than Iran or Persia.

But if you look to the real persia before the Persian Empire then you see that persia is smaller than iran .
the smaller persia is actually the province fars where you can see beautiful city's like Persepolis .
like the greek Diodorus Siculus say : It was the richest city under the sun .

Iran is the name for modern Persia.Just check at maps and globes,and you will see the words Persia in Perenthases under Iran.

The real name of Iran up to 1928 was persia but as soon as England try to change our belives they convience REZA KHAN (Iranian King) to change its name from Persia to Iran which means (Place wher Arian people live).

but another kinda modern name is Iran and for people iranian which nowadays sounds like a bad guys and terrorists which we are not . we respect everything and everyone who respect us

Um good question - used to be the Persian Empire - but now it is Iran - the real Iranian ppl don't like it when they are called Persian because actually southern Iran is called Persia or at least thats what i've been told by my father who is Iranian
