Is Iran worth going to for a vacation ?

I am thinking going to Iran this year for vacation with my girlfriend, what are the good parts to go ?

it is if you know or at least understand the language a little bit, or have friends and family there!
Tehran is the best place to have fun and underground parties! but the weather is sooo dirty. If you want to go shopping, i would recommend Kish Island, located in the Persian Gulf. Because Iran doesn't have many sea shores, a lot of people go to Kish Island, for their big malls, and the beach. if you are looking for famous old historical places, there is one in Shiraz,( the mid-west part ) and Kermanshah, which is on the west side. also, you could go to the north part, called Shomal, it has a very beautiful green environment, and nice, clean, fresh weather because it's stuck between Caspian sea, and a big mountain range.

Its a huge country, fantastic archaeological treasures, lots to see. I have never been but have friends that visited there and loved it, as you can imagine these days tourists are a rarity, so the ones that do go are treated like royalty. Being an Islamic country, crime rate is very low and its safe.

Iran is great country and believe me that you will enjoy than your vacations. Here in Iran you can experience all kinds of weather anytime.
I recommend you to start from SHIRAZ; the heart of our ancient civilization. You can find there building and tombs which are belong to 2500 years ago.
Then you can go to see ISFAHAN and introduce more to Islamic art.

first i want to say: whats with all the thumbs down to the good answers? iran is a fantastic country.. except with a bit of trouble in the government/political area.

second: of course iran is beautiful place to go for a vacation. trust me. you will L O V E it. you hear or see bad stuff about our country but the people are the most generous, kind and funny people you will ever meet. theres a saying in iran that many people follow: do good, say good, be good. i think thers more to it but i cant remember lol

best places to go to would be kish island: beautiful. its very recent and it has great things to do there. another place would be perspolis. you can see the ancient ruins of our empire. shiraz is fantastic; especially if you like your wine.
mashad is the 2nd biggest city (im pretty sure) and its to the east of the country. tabriz is great. tehran is very umm.. industrilised. its just a normal city but theres nothing historically important there i dont think (check wikipedia for more info as im using just my knowledge here). tehrans weather is a bit mucky...
you should go to some villages on the way. rent out a room at a persian families house, that way you can really get to know us. i promise you that once you go into the house and settle down, you will be treated to tea with many persian sweets and dates then half an hour you will be talking about politics and laughing at jokes... but your communication might be a bit hard so take a phrase book or i would reccomend learning basic phrases online.

search sites and check your travel requirements. talk to a travel agent and make sure you have fun!
