What is (qat)what's in it and?

what's good or bad about it?what do you think?

Qat/Khat is simply a leaf that grows on a native tree in Yemen, and some parts of Africa. Chewing it has a mildy narcotic uplifting effect. It is considered generally to be haram as it does have intoxicating effects. Some scholars in Yemen only say it is makruh and not actually haram. But this is the very minority opinion. No good at all comes from it,. as Yemenis spendly nearly 1/3 of their income on it. It is EVerywhere in Yemen, Somalia and other places.

i know that both men and women are fond of chewing it , esp in Yemen .
i also saw them in Dubai in the old market.
they chew it like us when we chew gum !
i read that the Yemen president has decided to stop chewing it himself to give a good example.

Qat is a leaf that is huge in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Yemen. Usually the men chew it in their mouths while drinking tea. It's a drug and it's illegal in the U.S. My grandma (in Ethiopia) actually owns a qat farm. lol.

qat / chat is a classified as a psychotropic drug, but for traditional reasons it is chewed in horn of africa and yemen.
My personal opinion is that it is bad. But here in Ethiopia it has become soooo common that pple look at u funny if u don't do it. It is a huge export market for Ethiopia (the 2nd most exported item, i think, next to coffee), but it is banned in some parts of the country..so that is a good start.

Hope that helps
