Anybody been to Gambia???

Im going in two weeks. What can I expect and have you any tips for things I should take?

I cant wait!

Thanks

I assume you'll be staying in a hotel near the Atlantic Ocean. The sun drenched beaches are The Gambia's main attractions.

Bring sun lotion and your best summer outfits. It will be warm, but if there is a wind (coming from the ocean) at night, then it can feel chilly on your red skin, so consider bringing a sweater.

The people are friendly (although sometimes a bit too eager to sell you stuff) and the country - although poor - is orderly and relatively clean by African standards.

Apart from the beach life, you can also go on tours to visit national parks or cruise up the river. At night, most foreign tourists gather in Senegambia.

Enjoy.

i went two years ago and its a lovely country but it is very poor. most of the time we had little kids running up to us begging, they were after anything from socks to towels,so be prepared for begging

I have been going to the Gambia for 10 years aand even lived there for 1 year so know a fair bit about the place. It is a lovely country and the people are really friendly, but not all are to be trusted. However if you make a good friend whilst you are there they will take care of you and show you the sites alot cheaper then the tourist companies. In return they would be pleased with the odd drink or meal or even a bag of rice for they family. If they ask if you would like to visit they family take them up on they offer it is a chance to see the real Gambia. You may find a small torch handy as there is not many street lights and maybe bags of sweets, pens etc for the kids. Also don't forget a good insect repellent as theres lots of mosiquitos. Enjoy your holiday
