Anybody been to Gambia??? |
Im going in two weeks. What can I expect and have you any tips for things I should take? I assume you'll be staying in a hotel near the Atlantic Ocean. The sun drenched beaches are The Gambia's main attractions. i went two years ago and its a lovely country but it is very poor. most of the time we had little kids running up to us begging, they were after anything from socks to towels,so be prepared for begging I have been going to the Gambia for 10 years aand even lived there for 1 year so know a fair bit about the place. It is a lovely country and the people are really friendly, but not all are to be trusted. However if you make a good friend whilst you are there they will take care of you and show you the sites alot cheaper then the tourist companies. In return they would be pleased with the odd drink or meal or even a bag of rice for they family. If they ask if you would like to visit they family take them up on they offer it is a chance to see the real Gambia. You may find a small torch handy as there is not many street lights and maybe bags of sweets, pens etc for the kids. Also don't forget a good insect repellent as theres lots of mosiquitos. Enjoy your holiday |
