Does the iphone work in Ghana, West Africa??

Does the iphone work in Ghana, West Africa??

Iphone can work on any network if it has its software modified. If u buy one from the states and try and use it there, it wont work.

I don't think it will work in Africa. To use a phone in most African countries you need a phone with a sim card.

If it has a sim card or is a GSM format, it should work,....provided that your cell phone carrier has international roaming and is set up for Africa (specifically Ghana).

I would recommend getting a SKYPE account (free at www.skype.com), then getting a u.s. based virtual phone number (costs about $18 & gives you 3 months of service).

I did this when I went to Gambia (West Africa). I brought along my little pocketpc (HP ipac) that has Wi-Fi. I then just bought a u.s. virtual number from skype. When I traveled, my friends and family could call me on my pocketpc and I would just pick up in skype like any other regular call (using small earbuds & mini mic.

It was GREAT for them because I was able to purchase a virtual number with the same area code of my regular cell phone and their calls were always FREE to me. Though if I called them, it was just a $0.26 cent charge....but free if they had skype also on their phone or computer. WOO HOO!

Also, from what I remember from a friend who lived in Ghana a year, Busy Internet (an internet cafe on Ring Road in Accra) has free wi-fi.

Hope this helps.
