The fewest number of train changes during the day is to leave Nice on the Eurocity train 145 Sanremo at 2:05 pm and change at Genova Porta Principe to the intercity train Donatello at 5:06 pm. You arrive in Firenze at 10 pm. the cost is 40 euro for 2nd class tickets.

There is a direct night train between the two that leaves Nice at 9:50 pm and arrives in Firenze at 6:53 am. The Firenze stop is at the Campo di Marte station. Seats are 40 euro, or a berth in a 4 bed compartment is 70 euro.
