What is the best way to spend New Year's Eve in Florence, Italy as a tourist? Are there any events?

go to venice for new yrs........fireworks, etc.....

Ricky I'm sorry but you are a bit antique..
maybe in 1990s there wasn't events in the street for the New Year Eve, but now we are in 2007!!!
And usually there are free concerts in big squares, like in Piazza Signoria or Piazza PItti, people walking in the streets and in pubs (specially close to Piazza Santa Croce) , big parties (one for shure is in Fortezza da Basso (you have to buy the thicket, it's quite expensive and really crawded, like a huge disco), and other parties are in every disco and club...
When you arrive you need to ask, or look on website..(we have a monthly paper like the londiner "time out" but i think it is only in italian...
