Are there any free or cheap edinburgh attractions? Also where is a cheap place to eat preferably buffet lunch?

The only free attractions that are in Edinburgh are the Art Galleries on the Mound, Queens Street and Market Street or the Museums in Chambers Street (You can also have a look at Greyfrair's Bobby and the Kirk Yard here) and the Museum of Childhood in the High Street.
Another free attraction is the view of Edinburgh from the top of Arthur's Seat.
The Botanical Gardens are worth a visit.
Jimmy Chung's is worth a visit for a good Chinese buffet lunch.
