I have never been to Juarez, Mexico. My girlfriend and I want to visit for a day during a road trip. Tips?

This Christmas break my girlfriend and I will be traveling from Oklahoma down to Texas and then into New Mexico. Our travels will take us through El Paso, TX and I am very interested in visiting Juarez for the day.

I don't plan on driving in Mexico. Is it possible to walk into the country or will I have to drive?

What should I have as far as papers?

I only plan to be there during daylight hours, should I be concerned for my safety?

Is it a bad idea to bring my camcorder?

How much cash should I have for food and a few items to bring back? How much cash is too much?

What are the dangers for two European Americans in their mid 20's visiting Juarez? (Neither of us are fluent in Spanish, but we know a little).

What should I do to lower these dangers?

Should I just stay on the American side and forget about the Juarez trip altogether? Thanks.

Yes it is not only possible to park in El paso and walk across the border into Juarez it is advisable.A current picture ID is all you will need to cross over the border and return.Taking your camcorder with you should not be a problem just exercise caution and don't lay it down anywhere. You don't need to speak any Spanish to visit the border towns in Mexico.See the link below for more information. You should have no trouble at all as thousands of people a day cross the border between El Paso and Juarez without incident.
Enjoy your visit! If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to email me.

hi. you may be interested in the border jumper trolley. they pick you up in el paso and ride you over to juarez. they take you to shops and places to eat over there. they will then pick you up and take you back to el paso. they make their rounds every hour i believe. there is also an faq on their website that you may be interested in. it will answer many of your questions.
