If you need a temporary import sticker because you are going into mainland Mexico ... you need a notarized statement from the lien holder stating that it is OK to take the car to Mexico.

You won't need a import sticker in Baja or along the border in the "free zone" (up to 21km).

THE FIRST THING IS TO GET MEXICAN INSURANCE AND FULL COVERAGE. IT CAN PROTECT YOU ALOT.

IT ALSO DEPENDS HOW FAR INTO MEXICO YOU WANT TO GO.
IF IT'S IN BORDER DISTANCE,,,, NO PROBLEM. IF YOU WANT TO GO BEYOND THE FREE ZONE,,, THEN YES YOU DO NEED A PERMIT FOR YOU AND YOUR CAR.
IN ANY CASE, TAKE YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU AND HAVE FUN IN MEXICO.

WOW!!!!!!!! IM DOING THE SAME THING.
im going on a road trip to mexico... leaving california to oaxaca (this is gonna be a looooooooooong trip)... well my brother too his truck to mexico this year... he said that he had to pay like $400 to take the vehicle out of the united states... but when u return with the vehicle they give it back. Get mexican insurance for sure... i mean in mexico anything can happen.
My car is currently financed too... and i am going to go with a notary public so i can take out the car---- since my dad is the main owner of the vehicle.... so yeah.
if you co-signed ur car then it will be best to do something like this too... SO. WHERE U GOING?
hope this helped a bit... HAVE FUN i know i will.

Better call Mexican embassy or consulate, because sometimes is difficult to pass a car through Mexican customs, because a lot of people buy a car in the US (cheaper), and take it down the border without paying taxes.

you need to pay only 400 dollars , it's like an insurance to make sure you come back, and that's it

BANJERCITO welcomes you and provides the opportunity to perform a transaction from your computer to obtain a temporary permit to import your vehicle into Mexican Territory.
To do so, you just need to complete the following two steps:
go to
Importaci贸n Temporal de Veh铆culos it's on the left side of the page, almost at the bottom.
I did it this way, also u can use your atm to put your deposit . The price will depend on your car make and year. Good luck

you will need a financial letter saying that you are paying on it and it is ok to travel to mexico make sure they put in writing the make model vin number. you will also need a visa/mastercard fort the fee they charge. make sure the finacial people could get you a duplicate title letter or if you have one and a I.d /driverse license.
