Places of interest in the surrounding areas of Valladollid - perhaps a vineyard etc.?

I am visiting Valladollid very soon and would like to take public transport to different interesting areas and would particularly like to visit a vineyard

All the cities in this area have a lot of the medieval age, castles and great monuments. Just to name a few: Salamanca, Burgos and Leon. Valladolid it's not far (abut 3 hours)from Madrid or Santander (place next to the sea). About vineyards, just ask in Valladolid, it won't be difficult to reach one.

Public transport in Spain:

www.alsa.es - Bus
www.renfe.es- Train

Similar price and time, probably train is a little bit more expensive and quicker.

Sorry, I never noticed anything interesting driving through Vallodolid (it's on the road between Portugal and France!). I'm not even sure they make much wine in that region. But I'm sure someone will come on here to correct me.

Visit PE脩AFIEL. it has a castle that has been turned into a Museum of Enology. (Wine museum) Ir's about 55 kms. east of Valladolid on the N122 road.).
This is also tHe area of the best wines in Spain (Ribera del Duero, even better than Rioja wines!) and there are several wineries that can be visited. Try VEGA SICILIA (This is one of THE most exclusive wines of the region) It is between Valladolid and Pe帽afiel on the same road.
There is a bus service running from Valladolid to Aranda de Duero, this will take you along the N122. Ask at the local bus station for the timetables and prices. The bus company is NAVARRO. (There are about 5 buses daily in each direction).

If you want to be more free to move around the area, rent a car for a day.or two. There are quite a lot of things worth seeing...
And the best lamb in Spain is eaten in this region (Go to the MESON DE LA VILLA or the restaurant of the HOSTAL JULIA in the center of Aranda de Duero, they are both excellent).
Sorry I can't give you names of restaurants in Valladolid itself, when we visit there we always eat with my husbands family!

You have 4 parks in Valladolid, the Campo Grande is the biggest one, there are also several interesting churches, the cathedral, the Ayuntamiento (city hall), several palaces worth seeing and 2 museums.

You can visit Valladolid in the web:
www.ava.es
this is the official city website

Enjoy your visit!
