If you went to the game Liverpool v Cardiff what did you think of Anfield the area?

Anfield as an area was once a classy suburb full of Georgian architecture and in the centre of it all was one of the finest Victorian parks in the country ---Stanley Park. Even up until the 1930's the area was good but like so many places has suffered a catastrophic decline after the war. The reasons for the decline are many ----not least the vandalism which infests our big cities. It is undeniable that the area is now run-down but If you look closely there is still a Victorian infra-structure in the Park, the historic cemetery and the grand houses whose owners take a great pride in.
All this has been recognized by the City Council who have insisted that as part of the construction of the new football ground that the park be restored to its former glory. The work begins next week. Although many people are sceptical, the new Anfield could mean the regeneration of the whole area. It is notable that the only Victorian structure that has ever been refurbished in the area is Anfield football ground itself ---the reasons are self-evident.

I live in Anfield, as I have for most of my 54 years (3 years in Aberystwyth and 6 years in Toxteth) and it's a dump. It was a good place to live for much of my life, but it's been let down by councillors and planners so much over the last 10 to 15 years that most people want out. No investment can turn the area down now. It wants flattening so Liverpool and Everton F.C.s can build whatever football facilities they want.
