Genealogy in Wales?

MY Grandfather's surname was Owen and he was adopted.
He was born in Bendigo in Australia. Did many transport ships leave from Wales to Australia. I can't speak one word of Welsh Language, and I think it would be very difficult for me to trace any records. What do you think? Any suggestions?

They have census returns for Wales and also passenger and imigration records.

A lot of people from Britain were de-ported if they had done any crimes and sent to Australia for hard labour.

Try going to the archives.
