Things to in cardiff?

going to cardiff with sons for millennium magic weekend - rugby. Wat can i do with my other 9yr old son & partner while rugby weekend going on.Where is gud to eat and not too expensive. Staying at travellodge in Bristol - any tips

There's quite a bit for both children and adults:

Techniquest, situated in the bay it's a sicence fun interactive place for children to learn and try things out.

Cardiff Castle

Castle Coch

If you want reasonable places to eat I would say avoid Cardiff Bay, it's a nice place to look around etc etc but the eating places are a little higher than the City Centre.

The inner city has eating places in shopping centres as well as in the arcades and just generally on the streets.

The shopping areas are also quite nice in cardiff and the arcades are full of non high street stops selling all kinds of different things.

You'd need a car for this one but there's Cosmeston Lakes which is situated out of Cardiff heading towards Sully, it used to be the site of an old steel works that they flooded to produce a new lake environment. Take a pick nick or you can even hire BBQ's from there so that can kill a few hours. There is also a medevil site there.

If you want a day out try St Fagans Centre of Welsh Life. It is an open area following the different stages of Welsh life and development and also traces it's vast history.

They also have old fashioned shops you can buy the old sweets in and houses that show the changes in how we lived and working the way up to today.

Finally you can always jump on a train and visit Swansea and other towns in the area. I would recommend Swansea now that the weather has improved as the coast is great.

There's plenty to do. Visit the castle and explore its grounds, it's only 2 mins walk from millennium stadium and you can spend a bit of time there. Very nice shops for your wife to explore, lots of arcades with some excellent independent retailers offering a wide variety of goods. Maybe take a short trip to Cardiff Bay, where there's lots to eat and do for you, your wife and son. Visit the museum next to City Hall on Boulevard-de-Nantes, again very close to the stadium and I'm sure your son would enjoy the dinosaur collection, there's a gallery there also. If the weather's nice you could enjoy an alfresco meal at one of the decent eateries on mill lane, sit back, share a bottle of wine and watch the world go by. Plenty to do in Cardiff, it's a very compact yet bustling city. Hope you enjoy your stay.

We have a few castles in the area. The Bay is nice and cool now. Some cheap places to eat in the bay also. there's St Fagans etc

Dude, sounds like you had the same trouble with accomodation as us, we were lucky to get in the travelodge in Cardiff!!!! Im hoping to visit the Dr Who exhibition in the Bay on the Sunday morning before the matches start, im 32 but im sure a 9 year old would enjoy it too!!!!

Good luck, enjoy the games.

Try the links below should give you plenty of ideas.

My recommendation is Techniquest in the bay your kids will love it.

Enjoy your trip.
