Do you need a passport to travel from Texas to Cancun Mexico if you are a U.S. citizen ?

If you fly to Cancun from Texas you will need a passport. If you go by car/bus/ship you don't need a passport. You do need a valid photo ID and your original birth certificate. Or a BC with raised seal.

If you are going by ship, some of the cruise lines are requiring you have a passport, call your cruise lines to find out what documents are required. At some point this year, the requirements will change for traveling by car/bus/ship and you will need a passport if you leave the country and want to return to the US.

Your best bet is to apply for that passport before the rush is back. Last year, it took almost 3 months to get a passport.

If you're flying, yes, if you're driving, you don't NEED one, but you're better off to get one just incase, you don't want to end up stuck there.

Technically, at the moment, no. But if you're traveling by air, you will need a passport to return to the USA. And next year things will get more restrictive. Bottom line: don't procrastinate; get the passport.

yes you will..we went in January...needed them at ticket counter just to get boarding passes....then you need them to get your visa......need them again to board going home...then as proff of citizenship

New rules and regulations that may or may not be in effect at all checkpoints as of yet state that all US citizens driving, flying, walking across the border will now require a passport.
