Cancun vs costa rica?

Trying to decide where to travel this summer. Cancun vs costa rica. Please let me know what city/area in costa rica. Pros vs cons of areas

Riviera Maya area of Cancun isn't as touristy as Cancun and very nice. Akumal, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Morelos or Tulum area. Closer to Chichen Itza and Xcaret . Further south you go, it's less crowded and more laid back.

I have never been to Costa Rica but I have been researching Belize. Ambergris Caye. We love to snorkel and the area has the 2nd largest coral reef. I would love to go before it becomes over run with tourists.

Either place is great to visit. I have been to Cancun area/Cozumel many times. My urge is to see something new.
Read up on both areas and see which one fits your budget and things on your "bucket list" you would like to see and do. My granddaughter just came back from Belize and did the zip-line tour over the rain forest. She said it was a thrill and scary at the same time. She would do it again.

Cancun is more Party Central, with Excursions to the Mayan Ruins at Chichen Itza (one of the new 7 Wonders), Tulum and Coba, as well as the Eco Parks at Xcaret and Xel-ha.

Costa Rica on the other Hand is great for Eco Tourism, hiking in the Rain Forests, climbing Volcanos and such like. It also is a fantastic place to visit and highly recommended.

Belize - Good Attractions with the Mayan Sites, cave tubing and snorkeling - Recommend Diving the Blue Hole or the Coral Reefs, snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley close to San Pedro, and the fishing.

I would however advise to stay on the Cayes rather than the Mainland. Belize City can be very Dangerous in places, so don't go out alone.
