Riveria maya?

we are thinking of going to the riveria maya for our honeymoon. has anyone ever been there before? any suggestions on where to stay?

I would suggest that you stay in Playa Del Carmen, it is basically right in the middle of the Riviera Maya. (I been to PDC 3 times in the last 2 years.) I would stay at the Playacar Palace. (check out the hotel at tripadvisor.com, and read the overview of PDC as well.) It is one block from 5TH Ave. and the ferry dock in PDC. It is a great hotel and the location can't be beat. You can take all the tours from the hotel, the hotel mey offer you some for free and all of the pick ups will be close to your hotel as well.

PDC is also just a ferry boat ride away from Cozumel. There is also a Cozumel Palace, so you can use the all inclusive package at all of the Palace hotels.

Here is a website so you can check out some of the tours. (playatrips.com) The tours run just about everyday, so you don't need to book them until you get there. If you decide to go to Xcaret, which I do recommend, do not purchase a tour. Take a cab, it is only about 5 min. from the hotel. Purchase your tickets at the gate and I do recommend the all-inclusive ticket. Don't buy the dinner for the night show(it was terrible), but go to the night show. I have taken the Xel-ha/Tulum tour and the Myan Encounter, both were lots of fun and they not far from PDC. There is just a lot to do if you want to in that Rivieria. The Chichen-Itza tour is worth checking out, but it will take several hours to get there. (Chichen-Itza is in the middle of the Yucatan, not on the coast.)
There are other hotels, but the Palace is very nice and the price and location can't be beat. Plus, if you go to Cozumel you can use the Coz Palace facilities and eat as well. Great snorkeling right in front of Coz Palace.

I have found in my travels that I can book the hotel and airfare directly and get a better deal than with a travel agent, sometimes. You may want to check vacationstogo.com and see what they will charge. I have used them before and I was very happy.

I would also encourage you to check into getting your scuba certification while your there, if you are interested in that, you will never find a more beautiful body of water to scuba in. You can even check with a local dive shop about taking you class work here and your open water dives in Playa Del Carmen. Any other questions, scubadaddy32@yahoo.

I personally have not been to that specific area in Mexico, but I know quite a few that have gone and have gone back AGAIN. They loved it there and had an amazing time. They said it was just so beautiful and the resort was amazing.
If you go, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time.

I've been there several times. There are several places you can go to, including Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. There are resorts in between these places too, often large ones. Cancun's hotel strip has beautiful beaches and big, luxuy hotels, most all inclusive. Playa del Carmen is a busy town and growing fast. Lots of options here to venture outside your hotel if you want. Lots of shops and restaurants. Tulum is the smallest town of all, about 2 hrs from Cancun airport. It is quiet, has some nice little restaurants, beautiful beaches and excursion possibilities to the ruins of Tulum and Coba. A good choice if you would like to rent a car and go see some stuff.

So it totally depends on what you are looking for. If you just want to laze around and enjoy your honeymoon, pick a nice all-inclusive in the Cancun area.

I am a travel agent and book a lot of honeymoons to Riv. Maya. It is a wonderful area, and I recommend: El Dorado Royale, Excellence and The Royal Playa del Carmen. All are All Inclusive and very romantic and upscale.

The Excellence in Riviera Maya was absolutly wonderful. My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon. The food was great, the service was wonderful; I would definitely go back and stay there =)

Xcaret resort is very nice. I went for my honeymoon. The park is awesome. Good food and drinks. Off the beaten path, small. Not a very nice beach in the resort, but the park makes up for it.

Colonial Palladium was very nice too. Much bigger. Good drinks, so so food. Nice beach. Great spa!! Salt-water pool is neat. Good snorkeling off the beach.

I did not care for the Moon Palace, unless you鈥檙e a big golfer.

All are reasonably priced.
