What's the best hotel (not all-inclusive) in the Tulum/Playa del Carmen/Cancun?

I want to travel to see Mayan ruins in the Tulum area in April. I'd like to stay at a hotel that isnt too expensive but is still nice. I don't drink alcohol, so the all-inclusive is out (they charge and ton and let you get drunk basically). Suggestions (with website links) of where I should stay?

Places with a pool and beach access would be nice. Accessibility to town or a complete resort is also important.

I would check this site for resort choices. They have reviews and candid photos too.

All-inclusive is not only for the people that drink. It includes food. Three meals a day plus snacks. Water, soft drinks, coffee, tea, juice etc. You get a better deal with a all-inclusive. They will pack you a lunch when you go on an excursion. Some all-inclusive include excursions and your transfers back and forth to the airport. When we left to go back home, they packed us a lunch for the plane ride home. Think about it.

good luck and enjoy)

I stayed at the Akumal Beach resort between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It was amazing, but it is all inclusive. We do not drink alcohol either, but we still found it great for the food and snacks to get all inclusive.

I always find the best deals on expedia, you could check there.

we stay at the Krystal...in the hotel zone...nice...quiet...clean...eat at alot of different places...you can rent a car or take a tour to Tulum...hotel right on ocean..has pools also...within walking distance of shopping and eating

Getting hard to find a hotel the is not all inclusive.....the locals are in a pinch...who would go to town for dinner if its paid for at the resort?

Tulum is a very small ruin...be sure to hire a guide...they hang around the entrance....well worth it...I think we paid about $20 US.....pay it.....you'll like it....make sure you get an offical guide...they have badges....you can rent a car in Cancun and drive to Tulum.....no problem....fun ride.
