What activities can we do to keep the children entertained during our holiday to Canberra? |
We are coming to Canberra for 10 days over the Christmas & New Years period, our children are aged 7, 9 & 12years. Hi there, I grew up in Canberra and now go back there regularly with my little ones. They love the Science and technology centre (questacon) which is a really great day out - it is near the high court, art gallery area which are also nice to visit. The new museum by the lake looks great but I haven't been there yet. There are water slides in Jameson (north side). Going up the black mountain tower (telstra tower?) is fun. There is a zoo/aquarium as well but I can't remember what it is called (I'm sure you could google). Taking a picnic down to Lake Burley Griffin is nice - there are some good parks dotted around it - especially near the James Cook fountain where you can hire paddle boats. when my kids were young when going on a trip i would write out lists for them of different objects they might see on the way, they would have to cross them off as they found them, the first person to see a particular item and call it out was the only one that could cross that item off, each child had to find their own items to cross off Can't beat liwylou's answer but the zoo is called The National Zoo and Aquarium. It is really worth looking at the fish. There are a number of big cats and a fair few small monkeys. Also some otters which are good to watch. Emus and wallabies wander free around the grounds. Everyone's pretty much covered the big ones - definite musts are Questacon, the Canberra Zoo and Aquarium and Cockington Green. There are also plenty of events organised regularly down here. Google "events in Canberra" or something like it. There's an awesome booklet they have each year that details all those types of events, but I couldn't find it. Maybe try a travel agent? Have fun! The science centre questacon is a must! It has 8 maybe more themed sections with lots of fun stuff to do! |
