Bad points of Canberra?

I'm interested to know some more about Canberra 'cos I might be moving there next year.
I want to know the bad points 'cos so far on this website I've only seen good points. I also want to know some more stuff so can you tell me the bad points and answer my questions please.
I know that the nightlife is not great, but I'm not a big fan of that stuff.
What is the crime like? Is it very bad?
I have a baby girl, what are the good schools and is it safe for her?
Are there any good jobs?
How is life generally?

Thanks to all who answer! :D

Heroin problem? There is, if you hang around Civic all the time and the associated nite spots.and certain public housing areas. Otherwise, you don't see it.

Main problems with Canberra that this former Queenslander sees is that the cool/cold weather lasts far too long. It is the middle of December and for most of the last week the temperature was below 20C. OK it has been raining a bit which has been badly needed but I get sick of the constant chill.

This means I spend a lot of money on heating. For a typical year it is easily $1200 and I have the thermostat set on 20C which is on the cool side, with 16C overnight and when I'm at work. If I lived in almost anywhere else in mainland Australia heating costs would be a few hundred or nothing, and I have never lived with air conditioning and can still manage it.

The other thing is that public transport is really bad. I have never used it to any great extent, but it can take 90 minutes to go 3/4 of the way across town, you can do that in a car in 25. Best thing is to spend a little more on rent/purchase and get a place that is not out in the boonies like Gungahlin.

The city is safe for you and your daughter. Crime rates are low because the average level of education is Canberra is the highest in Australia.

Most of the people in Canberra do not work in the public service. Public service jobs are good though the pay can be low-ish compared to some other places, depends on the place and the level of expertise involved. Don't believe the stories about people wearing grey cardigans, drinking tea all the time and never answering phones. Public servants may not work as hard as some other people on average but I don't know of anywhere that they have nothing to do at all. If you want to get good promotions you will still have to put in a bit of effort.

The primary schools are OK, probably better on average than those outside the ACT.

Big heroin problem.

Kens answer is really good :)

*I agree with him on the public transport especially, if you work Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 it's not too bad, otherwise forget it.

*The Australia-wide skills shortage is biting here in Canberra too, there are plenty of jobs depending on what you want to do. I recently made a career change from retail to the Public Service and it took me less than a month (with the help of an agency) to find a public service job and I had very little experience.

* If you are not used to the cold it can be a bit of a shock at first but I'm used to it now.
