Why is Cambridge called Cambridge and not Grantabridge?

Why is Cambridge called Cambridge and not Grantabridge?

Why do you think it should be called Grantabridge?
*edit*
ok, I read a bit on it and it just says that the name mutated over time...."By Norman times the name of the town had mutated to Grentabrige or Cantebrigge (Grantbridge), while the river that flowed through it was called the Granta. Over time the name of the town changed to Cambridge, while the river Cam was still known as the Granta. It was only later that the river became known as the Cam, by analogy with the name Cambridge."...
so to answer ya...no idea...lol

grantabridge????

u lost me there ????????????

Possibly because it sits on the River Cam, not the River Granta.

I'm assuming.

Historically, the settlement grew up at a fording point of the river cam, where a bridge was built - hence Cambridge.

I regret that I do follow your reasoning for the use of "Grantabridge"

Grantchester is named after the river granta that runs through it

Cambridge is named cambridge because the main river through it is the river Cam

The granta and the cam both meet up though

idk but i was born in cambridge! Yay me but i live in florida now :( I h8 florida i liked California better
