I'm moving to brighton......?

My partner and I are moving to Brighton next year even though we have never even visited there before. Can someone tell me the best areas? We want somewhere where the property isin't too expensive. Near good schools (We have a three year old boy), pubs, clubs restaurants and where there is plenty to do. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Can't visit we are both very hectic with work and caring for our son.

I saw your other question about whether moving is a good idea to get away from a miserable life. I'd agree with others that have advised you pop over to Brighton for a long weekend to see if you like the place first. The last thing you want is to think you're escaping to a better life only to hate where you end up. And in any case, how are you going to find somewhere to live without visiting Brighton anyway? That said, Brighton's a brilliant, vibrant place to live and it's well suited to young couples and the young at heart. However, the fact that so many people are now living in Brighton and working in London means housing is way out of touch with local salaries: you're talking rent of 拢1K a month for a two-bed flat and 拢250K+ for the same if you're buying. So make sure you have a nice nest-egg or a good job to go to first! I'm not sure about schools but I'd say the more "family-oriented" areas are Hove, Kemptown seafront and the seaside towns of Peacehaven or Shoreham nearby. It's a very open-minded place with large gay, student and artistic communities and I think you'll like the fact that you can "be yourself" here without getting lost like in a big city. Good luck in whatever you do but tread carefully and make sure it's for you!

why don't you go for a visit before you move.

Why not visit there before you move?

Not visiting before you move there is a big mistake.

Brighton, city (1991 pop. 134,581) and district, East Sussex, SE England. The largest and most popular resort in S England, Brighton also has engineering works and factories that manufacture office machinery, machine tools, electrical apparatus, vacuum cleaners, shoes, and paint. Formerly a small fishing village, it became a fashionable resort and was patronized, starting in 1783, by the Prince of Wales (later George IV), who had the Royal Pavilion built. Entertainment is provided on the Palace Pier and in the Dome, which was formerly the royal stables; the West Pier was closed in 1975 and partially collapsed in 2002. In addition to the seaside promenade, the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, an aquarium, a race course, and sports facilities are of interest. The Univ. of Sussex is in Brighton.

Hey there-
If it isn't possible for you to visit Brighton i would do all your research on the Internet. Search on the web to see where the best schools are, how far they are from where you decide to live, what other amenities there are close by. Which area are the best to live in.
You could always ask this information when you get in contact with your estate agent. Let them know what you are looking for, the kind of area and the fact that good schools will also need to be taken into consideration.
That way hopefully you will get a place and live in the area you will be happy. Although if you drive, then you might not mind taking your son to a school out of your area.
Good luck!
