Staying near Dinan, Britanny.? |
I'm staying in a farmhouse near Dinan at the end of the month. Can anyone give me some must see's and approximate mileage. Dinan, the town in itself, is a wonderful place to see... but that probably won't take you much more than a day or two. Thanks to the ter trains though, Dinan is not far from the capital city of Bretagne (Brittany) which is the City for Rennes. For roughly12 Euros (that's what it was in '06 at least) you can take the train from Dinan to Rennes via Dol and it is only about an hour's distance. Rennes has a nice little art museum, good shopping, and Opera House, affordable (and expensive) eating. If you are into Indian food there is an *excellent* place called "India" in the Rennes Centre Ville just north (I believe) of Place de la Parliament. From Rennes one can take the ter train out to the smaller villages (there are quite a few within an hour's ride) or you can catch the bus. The bus station is located at the Rennes Gare (train station). If you like nature and walking, my favorite place when I lived there was the town of Paimpont which was an hours bus ride south of Rennes (and like 4 euro round trip for a student under 25.) Paimpont is in the Broc茅liande Forest, which is a key player in the King Arthur Grail Story. From Rennes, one can also reach the coast (St. Malo) in two hours by bus or 1 hour by train. In 2006 a TGV was installed going to St. Malo so the trip from Rennes is faster. There is, however, a ter train that runs from Rennes to St. Malo via Dinan ... so it would only take you probably about 30 min. I think Dinon is grand. We enjoyed our stay in Dinan in June. You can see Dinan on this website http://www.a-taste-of-france.com/dinan-f... |
