Fishing and agriculture - Brittany is France's leading agricultural region representing 11% of national production. Pork, beef, poultry, milk and vegetables are the region's main agriculture produce. Breton fishing ports produce almost half the national tonnage in fish and seafood.

Agro-alimentary industry - Providing one-third of regional industrial employment, the Breton agro-alimentary industry has diversified, particularly the processing of animal proteins (meat, fish and milk), the vegetable processing industry and animal feed. At international level, Brittany's agro-alimentary industry produces almost half of national exports in meat and one third in fish.

Car industry - car manufacturing and associated industries provide 24,000 of the region's jobs.

Shipbuilding - Historically, Brittany is linked to civil and military shipbuilding. While this sector has been in decline it remains an important employer.

Electronics and telecommunications - The region ranks second nationally as a telecommunications centre and holds fifth place in electronics.

Tourism is also a major source of jobs.
