When visitng Cape Cod, what is the best transportation around?

Should we rent a car? oris there any public transport ? what is the best way to move around cape cod? thank you

Actually, there is one option other than renting a car...but only one. There are 2 boats that leave from Boston Harbor (high speed and a more leisurely, cheaper one) that go to P-town. For the most part, everything is walkable in Provincetown. So, if you need to rely on transportation other than a rental car you can still do the Cape, it will just be extremely limited. You can do it as a one day trip or stay over.

That said, if you can rent a car, that is by far the best way to go. It it would be a shame to be limited to just Ptown when there is SO much more to see and do on the Cape. And if there is any way you can plan it so you are driving on/off Cape not on a Fri or Sunday you will have a FAR more pleasant trip. The traffic can be brutal. Anyway just wanted to let you know you did have one a choice. But a car is by far the better one!

rent a car, definetly. there's like, NO pt and walking would take forever

You don't have to rent a car - there is a little bus that runs around the entire circle constantly...and hits all the highlights you want. The drivers are young local kids, very friendly.

you can get off and shop/eat/look...then mosey on at your own speed. You don't need to be wandering around in the private residential areas anyway..

Just check out which little 'town' is "dry" - {serve any alcohol in their restaurants).

It's just not that big!

Renting a car is probably best, although an all-terrain bicycle would be an excellent way to see the Cape as well, if you're physically fit, the Cape Rail Trail is miles long and fantastic. There is a great, new public transportation bus system: The Flex Bus.

Rent a car for sure...to get around and see everything you'll definitely need a car...public transportation will not cut it...you won't be able to see anything without a car...

I would rent a car, I go there every year one year we didnt rent and we really wished we had.

If you want to see a lot of the cape in a short amount of time then you should positively rent a car. No ifs ands or buts about it! Every town on the cape has something worth seeing. This way you can stop where you want and for how long you want. Have a great time!
