I am off to Berlin this coming weekend; would any one suggest any cool cafes/bars that I should go to?

I am staying not far from Potsdam Platz.

Directly at Potsdamer Platz are mainly posh and touristy hotelbars and restaurants. However, two bars are interesting:
The 40 seconds, a club at the top of the brick walled mini skyscraper directly at Potsdamer Platz and the Solar Bar located a bit - about 10 minutes walk - south of Potsdamer Platz (Stresemannstr. 76): http://www.solarberlin.com/
Some hot spots not far away from Potsdamer Platz: Bergmannstra脽e, located southeast of Potsdamer Platz in Kreuzberg (maybe 20 minutes walk, you can also go 10 mins by train or about 5 mins with cab), where cafes, bars and restaurants are very nice and cozy - especially bar nou, number 104, is nice.
Oranienburger Stra脽e, where you can go directly with the train (about 10 mins). Tourists meet locals and trashy meets chic. Recommended: Ambulance bar (no. 27), fire bar (located in the inconspicious side street Krausnickstr. no. 5), bellini lounge (very good cocktails, only 4,50 euro till 9 o'clock, oranienburger str. no. 42) and Aufsturz (bar with more than 100 beers, directly at the train station oranienburger stra脽e)

I would recommend going to the Sony Center. I was in Berlin for a few days with my boyfriend over the summer and we didn't like it very much, but a fun place to go is the Sony Center which, if I remember correctly, was very close to Potsdam Platz. It's very Americanized though, just to warn you. Otherwise, there's a TV tower thing (looks sort of like the space needle) that you can eat in. It's one of those revolving restaurants so that you can see the whole city.

Have fun!!

There are several good places. Maybe this can help:

You can also try a pub crawl, like this one:

Berlin is pretty dirty and unfriendly. There are many parts foreigners should not visit. Try to come to free Hamburg - more modern

Go to Oranienburgerstr in Mitte. It is right by the Friedrichstr. train station. There are lots of cool bars and restaurants. One of my favorites is QBA. It is a cuban bar, sometimes with live music and great drinks. Try a caipirinha. They are excellent there.

Two good dance clubs are either Sage Club or Tresor. Sage Club is cool because it has different levels with different rooms and music.
