I'm visiting my family in (for 3 months this Summer)Bahrain, coming from New York.What activities can I do while I am there? Well... BAHRAIN I spent a weekend in Bahrain once. There are hundreds of mounds of earth. They're tombs built by the Dilmun people thousands of years ago. There's scuba diving, and fresh water springs on the sea bed. Excellent beaches. A suq (market) where you can buy beautiful locally-made jewellery. Bahrain has a long history. It was inhabited before the pyramids were built. Up until the 1930s the only inhabitants were a few pearl divers. You may still be able to buy locally produced pearls. There's a causeway you can drive across to Saudi. Make a point of learning a few greetings in Arabic. It works like magic. When I visited, I was living in Qatar, a 20 minute flight away. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are only an hour's flight away.
