Yes, every Saturday night for 3 1/2 months back in 94 while stationed in Dharah, Saudi Arabia. I acted as troop commander and "tour guide" for our weekly trips over to Bahrain.

Yeah, real S. pit. Just like Dubai and other Arab countries.
Expensive to stay in Western accomidations. Great if your a queer or like little boys like MJ. You can go to the mall or go to the hotel period. You can smoke opium legaly, but not have a beer outside the toursit zones. I hated every minute there.

Lots of sand and dessert. I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would go there except to make big bucks working tax free for the Sand Brothers !

It's a very cute little island. You can fly there (I think) or drive there. You have to cross the causeway from Dahran. Believe me, it's very small. You can easily drive around the whole island in one day. I went there with my family and it was really nice; a breath of fresh air (I live in Saudi Arabia). We saw a couple of movies in the theater, went out to some restaurants, did some shopping and basically just enjoyed walking around without wearing an abaya. There are also some forts and archeological sites to see. Oh, and you can buy movies and magazine and stuff without them being censored. It's actually quite different from Saudi Arabia....maybe that's why I liked it.
