Where to Go to Have Fun in Austin? |
I will be in Austin in March on and around St. Patrick's Day, and need suggestions for things to do! I'm female and turning 21. I'm looking for basically anything interesting- clubs, bars, shopping, 'alt' places, just cool things to do day and night to celebrate! Downtown Austin on 6th street is a must. I highly reccommend checking out the Fado Irish Pub and Restaurant on Saint Patrick's Day. Lots of people go down to 6th street and party on their 21st birthday. There are lots of bars and live entertainment all in the same place. There are more clubs in the downtown area besides 6th street, but I'm not very familiar with them. I agree. 6th street on St Patty's day should be fun. During the non party hours, you could do the museums and capital. You can rent a kayak at Austin outdoor gear and guidance and play on town lake or lake Austin (don't fall over the dams). You'd want to go to 4th and Colorado. Fado's, which is one of the bigger Irish pubs in Austin. They shut down a part of 4th street for their activities. Also that area tends to have more people and start a little eariler than 6th. 6th also is kinda trashy and their birthday shots that are free are really watered down. I mean being a girl and your 21rst you could probably walk either 6th or 4th area with 5 bucks in your pocket and still drink a bit and have a good time. 6TH STREET!!! There are soooo many diverse bars and clubs there. Along with some of the most unique people you will ever meet. There is also a comedy club there called "Ester's Follies" that you should attend. They put on a HILLARIOUS performance. Then afterwards, you can hit up all the clubs. lol 6th street is definatley the place to go in Austin. Do you like hot chocolate men on bikes? Then you're just in time for Tx Relays!!! Well, there's about 180 bars listed in the Austin area on http://www.letzgoout.com. And yes, a good number of 'em are on 6th street, but 5th and 7th appear to be well represented too. :^D |
