Should i travel farther to work? |
I am moving to Suwannee , Georgia in a month.I am a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) and i make a great salary $100,000+.I have a choice of working at a hospital in Suwannee for $109,000 or traveling 30 miles to Atlanta for $120,000.Should i avoid the longer commute and work in suwannee or live in Suwannee and travel the 30 miles or just move to that area? I chose Suwannee because it has good school , affordable homes , low crime & diversity. That travel will not be worth the extra 30 miles if you are going to work during rush hour. The ride from 316 to 285 alone many days takes over an hour, not to mention the ride from the 400 merge to The Atlanta hospitals. take the job in Suwanee! Not to mention that gas is 3.00 per gallon and expected to rise, and will cost you an extra 3-5.00 each way per day with the extra mileage, and wear and tear on your vehicle. Good luck on your decision, and welcome to Atlanta! I think you have already made up your mind -- Suwannee hospital it is. The extra 11,000 isn't worth the stress, extra miles and less time at home with your family. You will spend the difference in salary on the commute. And travling from the north to downtown is an awful commute six says a week. Live work and play in Suwannee - the area itself is congested so you will do better just working there. I think you should choose the option with the hospital at Suwannee. You will spend more than an hour each way just to go to work. Traffic is the number one problem with Atlanta, you are probably better taking the lower paying job near where you'll be living - saves you the headache of the commute. 30 miles is a long way, it would probably take about an hour to 2 hours depending on the weather to commute each way. If you want the higher paying job you'd be better off moving closer to your job location, although the rent or cost of living would be slightly higher. I only drive 5 miles to work on I-285 between I-75 and 400 and it takes me about 25-30 minutes to commute each way. |
