How old is italy?

How old is italy?

very old

Italy became a nation-state in 1861 when the city-states of the peninsula, along with Sardinia and Sicily, were united under King Victor EMMANUEL II. An era of parliamentary government came to a close in the early 1920s when Benito MUSSOLINI established a Fascist dictatorship. His disastrous alliance with Nazi Germany led to Italy's defeat in World War II. A democratic republic replaced the monarchy in 1946 and economic revival followed. Italy was a charter member of NATO and the European Economic Community (EEC). It has been at the forefront of European economic and political unification, joining the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999. Persistent problems include illegal immigration, organized crime, corruption, high unemployment, sluggish economic growth, and the low incomes and technical standards of southern Italy compared with the prosperous north.

older than my great great great great great great great great great grandmother and thats old

Italy as a culture was founded during the times of the Medici family and writings of Dante Aleghieri (The Divine Comedy) in the 1200s. Dante was born in 1265 and is considered to be the father of the Italian language. Italy then developed through many stages of fuedal and monarchal society. It was then taken over by Napolean Bonaparte following the French revolution and Italy broke into many principalities. The unifaction movement took place in the 1840s and Italy became the country that we know today as all twenty regions joined together to create one government. Then WWI and WWII took a hard toll on Italy and fascism ruled Italy from the 1930s and the end of WWII. Italy had its final revolution and became a republic on June 2, 1946.

So, as you can see, Italy took many shapes as it formed from its early beginnings and into what we know now. It was also one of the six countries that founded the European Union when it was established in the 1940s.

Hope that I answered this as thoruoughly as I could.
