Does anyone in Algeria speak English?

I mean generally not just person to person.

com-on of course there are lot of Algerians who speak English
it's the second foreign language in Algeria
Algerian speak perfect French and have a France education and style coz we've been colonized by France and still have social and economic relationship with it so still French style

English is taught in schools from thee 7th grade
and in university it's taught as 1st foreign language
the matter is that not spoken in street and between ppl everywhere but lot of ppl speak it in their daily life
in chat
in sms , tv magazines
college lot of students now use English of course with French
and lot of English graduated ppl and excellent teachers we have and also many language schools ppl pay to learn English
even in Private
me personally i speak English in my daily life
with my fiance and my friends
in the net
even at home i make my parent and sis learn some words so that they understand me

Lots of Algerians speak French, many speak English too

Of course, English is an international language. You will find people speak English anywhere in the world, even deep in Africa.

Sure, The British Council have been there since last year, and they are training teachers in state schools to teach English, so there must be a lot of people learning English.

I've been to Algeria for holiday in last April. Believe me no one speaks English. Even French speakers are hard to find. I mean fluent French speakers not those who speak broken French. In the capital Algie, you will find someone who can speak a few words such as how are you ? thank you, goodbye. If you start to speak a long sentence to them then they are stunned and look at you in bewilderment. There were talks of closing the British consulate last year cause no one needed it, very few English living there. As for visa applying, most Algerian will apply visa to go to France, not Britain.

yes, but less than anywhere else. The most spoken lang is Arabic and French, since they are ancient french colony.
