What is the time window for the cheapest fares for airplane tickets?

Is there a general time window when flights are cheapest, because I looked at buy plane tickets and 2 months ahead of time, they were like $200 bucks, then I waited a couple of weeks and they were at the cheapest $99. And some I waited until 2 weeks before the flight and they were expensive because of low availability. So...my question is...Is there any general time window where tickets are at their cheapest?

It depends on the route, but generally, you'll do best purchasing between 90 and 21 days in advance. More than 90, and you might miss a sale; less than 21, and you're inside the cutoff for the cheapest advance-purchase fares. Which route do you need?

It's hard to say... I've tried to figure it out. When tickets first go on sale online may be the cheapest time. Flexibility will also lower the prices. Travelling at 6 a.m or after 8p.m. will save you some serious bucks. Travelling on Tuesday or Wednesday also saves you money. I generally use 1 of 2 airlines because of frequent flier miles. Stop over flights are cheaper and it really makes no sense.

with the way the system is modified... no one person can tell u wen is the moment to get the best rates....
you just gotta keep trying .. different dates(if date of travel is flexible).. different timings....
coz the rates vary every hour....

just got to spend time and wait to get lucky
...
