I like to go to a site like expedia or travelocity and get a general feel for the prices. Then I will go to the hotel or airline and book myself.

Another good site to visit is travelzoo.com They have some really good deals. They are not a travel agency, they are a site that finds the best deals -- there are some good ones out there.
