If you are a flight attendant, can your daughter fly alone for free?

my mom used to be a flight attendant and was thinking about going back to it later on.
she said if there is an opening on the flight we could just hop on! lol
could i go by myself or would i have to go with her considering she's the reason i could get on for free??

PLEASE no rude comments, meanies!
ahah

On pretty much every airline, whether it is regional, domestic, or international, there are a lot of benefits to the families of the flight crews. These can include, but are not limited to, discounted tickets or even free tickets, as well as possible first class upgrades and free food.

For instance, Southwest Airlines, a domestic airline, has 100% free space-available flights to any employee's family, meaning that if there are a few extra seats on the aircraft, the employee's family can take those seats free of charge.

Continental Airlines, both a domestic and international airline, offers free and discounted travel to employees and their families.

Delta Airlines, also domestic and international, offers essentially the same benefits.

So basically, yes, you will have many benefits of being a daughter of an airline employee :D

Happy flying!

YES

Yes, you would be able to fly by yourself. However, keep in mind this is on a space available basis...it's not a guaranteed seat. All paying passengers, as well as employees themselves, will get on before any travel eligible of an employee.

yes you can..

do it several time...

Our airline did have an age minimum, 16 or something like that. Small children weren't allowed to fly alone.

There also might be a waiting period, like if your mom is still on probation (usually 6 months). Some airlines don't let new hires use their passes right away. They might give them a pass or two or only jumpseat travel, which excludes their family...depends on the airline. She can find out and give you the details at the time. Just don't pack your bags the moment she leaves for training ;)

Otherwise yes. Please call ahead of time and ask about the availability. I used to call late at night on the West Coast when all the travel agencies were closed. They would be bored, we'd chat and they'd tell me which day of the whole week would be best.

Also, if you're in school, bear in mind that summers and school breaks are very difficult to get onboard using airline passes. You could miss class because you're stuck somewhere or have your plans twarted because you couldn't leave in the first place.

Please always conduct yourself appropriately. If you get drunk, act rude or don't stick to the dress code, it could hurt your mom's record at work. Even worse, she could lose her travel benefits for all of you or even (but very extreme) lose her job.

It can stressful flying standby so keep your cool!

Anyway, at least you have an idea of how it works. Hope she gets the job!

Eligible family members would be able to fly free that includes children and dependents and you would be able to travel alone without your mother.
